Letter from the publisher, issue 6
Winning Magazine's publisher John Winning on the print publication's sixth issue, and its theme of purpose.
The end of the year is a great time to consider your experiences and learnings from the past 12 months, and set your intention and goals for the year ahead. So, what will your purpose be?
In this issue, I share with journalist Nina Hendy an insight into my life — what drives me in business and also what I am passionate about personally. Some of my immediate goals include the ultimate for a sailor, the illustrious Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, where I am skippering Andoo Comanche, one of the fastest monohull yachts in the world. I am also working on a three-day not-for-profit summit called Human Kind, which has the objective to provide the community with the knowledge and tools to positively shape the nation’s collective future.
My goals for the immediate future really reflect my desire to use my business ecosystem and personal network for good. After a year of incredible environmental, political, financial and health-related events, to name just a few, I feel that having a strong sense of direction gives you the ability to remain centred so that no matter what is going on around you, you can make headway (an obvious reference to my love of sailing) and, ultimately, create meaning.
Our Purpose issue includes inspiring stories about Kylie Minogue headlining Sydney WorldPride 2023, partying with purpose to promote LGBTQIA+ issues; how good design is helping to restore dilapidated buildings for a new chapter; why major fashion brands are taking circularity into their own hands; and no-limits winemaking, as Australian vignerons challenge themselves to use vines at altitude.
I really hope you enjoy issue #6 of Winning and that it inspires you to help shape your goals, your travels and your experiences in and out of your home, for the year ahead.
